He’s bobbing his head back and forth in excitement while his mom sets it up, and when he sees the video it’s just the greatest thing ever. It’s a flashback to where Izuku storms into the kitchen to ask his mom for help in watching an old All Might video on the computer. I honestly liked Izuku pretty much immediately, however there is a scene which really sold me on him as a character in the very first episode. (I love how overly excited Izuku acts as a kid ^) He’s grown up as a fan of the biggest hero of them all, All Might, the worlds strongest and most successful hero, with posters and action figures of him all over Izuku’s room. In a world where people are born with superpowers (or “quirks” as they’re called here), both superheroes and supervillains have become an everyday part of society, and for all his life Izuku Midoriya has dreamt of nothing less than becoming a hero. Anyway, it’s probably smart to tell you just what the hell this show is about, so I’ll do just that. My Hero Academia though is certainly a follower of these tropes, but I don’t mind that at all as it works really well here. These are not rules, but they are rather general observations. This generally entails stuff like over the top fightscenes, themes of friendship, colourful character designs, and maybe a cute mascot or something. Even still, when a show is classified as a shounen there are usually several things you can expect from it. Now shounen isn’t a genre in itself, more a descriptor of the demographic. What that entails is generally that this anime is aimed at young teenagers, as shounen means excactly that, “young man” in japanese. So as you may or may not know, this is a “shounen” anime, more specifically an action/comedy shounen. And let me tell you, I am super excited for that second season, as this first season was pretty much the best! “Boku No Hero Academia” or “My Hero Academia”, the newest hit anime series just came to an end a short while ago, the first season at least.
